실과 천으로 그림을 그릴 수 있을까요?
아시아의 일본, 유럽의 체코, 남아메리카의 브라질까지 여러 나라에서 각기 다른 시대의 작가들이 따뜻하고 포근한 실과 천으로 만들어낸 이야기를 소개합니다.

서로를 이어주는 자수
실타래가 서로 연결되어 있는 것처럼, 자수 작업은 시간과 공간이 떨어져 있는 사람들을 연결해 줍니다.
다케이 다케오 Takei Takeo가 그린 1928년도 작품은 88년 만에 오오츠카 아야코 Otsuka Ayako의 새로운 자수 작업으로 다시 빛을 보게 되었습니다. 파벨 브라즈다 Pavel Brazda는 도안을 그리고 어머니
에바 브라즈도바 Eva Brazdova는 자수 작업을 하며 서로의 마음을 위로했습니다.

그림책으로 완성된 자수
로저 멜로 Roger Mello와 에바 볼포바 Eva Volfova 두 작가는 자수 기법으로 그림책을 완성했습니다.
로저 멜로는 수놓은 것처럼 그린 선과 글자를 엮은 이불이라는 실험적인 방법을 보여줍니다. 에바 볼포바는
천과 레이스, 실 등 다양한 소재의 콜라주와 자수를 조합하여 그림을 그리고, 실로 글자를 써서 이야기를 전해줍니다.

How can we draw pictures with thread and fabric?
Stories Drawn in Thread is an exhibition of stories made with warm and comfortable thread and fabric. For this exhibition, we have invited artists from Japan in Asia, the Czech Republic in Europe, and Brazil in South America. The artists are also from different eras and generations.

Embroidery That Connects People
Just as a thread connects itself to another thread, embroidery works connect people in different times and spaces. For example, Takei Takeo’s painting from 1928 was turned into a new embroidery by Otsuka Ayako after eighty-eight years. Pavel Brazda and his mother Eva Brazdova comforted each other as Eva created embroidery out of Pavel’s sketches and drawings.

Embroidery, Completed as Picture Books
The artists Roger Mello and Eva Volfova completed their picture books, using embroidery techniques. Roger Mello’s picture book shows an experimental quilting method, weaving lines and letters as if they are embroidered. Eva Volfova creates pictures by combining collages and embroidery made of diverse materials ― fabric, lace, and thread, etc. She writes letters with thread to tell different stories.
