In 2023, publishers from twelve countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America came together to start The Eye of the World project The project enables children to explore diverse cultures through art, opening their eyes to a wider world through exhibitions of books and artworks, lectures, workshops, and other activities. Most of these publishers are small in scale, yet each has been creating imaginative and artistic picture books with its own distinctive vision and sensibility. Picture books, as an art form, reach beyond language barriers and national borders to speak to everyone. Having previously been exhibited in France, Poland, Italy, and the Czech Republic, The Eye of the World project continues in South Korea, presented at MOKA in its curated exhibition featuring newly selected works. This exhibition brings together artistic picture books from around the world in one place, offering a chance to naturally experience different languages and cultures. We hope this will be a time to discover a new ‘eye’ within ourselves—through the rich expressions and artistic experiments found in the presented picture books.
