A Caldecott Celebration: Award-Winning American Artists
The main work
Children reinterpret the theme, plot, characters, and incidents in a story through their own imagination while reading it and looking at the illustrations. The Caldecott Award-Winning books are regarded as the gold standard for illustrated children’s books that fantastically harmonize the written language with the pictures, that is, the verbal and nonverbal elements, to expand the horizons of children’s imagination that they can experience through these illustrated books.
This exhibition 《A Caldecott Celebration: Award-Winning American Artists》 presents the original pictures of 12 artists who have moved children’s hearts during the 80 years of the Caldecott Awards history with their outstanding works, focusing on three keywords: Culture, Incidents, and Relationships. Each keyword is based on educational, literary, and aesthetic approaches, which are well known as the study methods of picture books, and they help children appreciate the works of these 12 award-winning artists more easily and interestingly. What do illustrations in children’s books by Caldecott Award-Winning Artists mean in the world of picture books in general? And what kinds of imagination do they cultivate in children?
